Creative technology is a broad label. Underneath it are a handful of skills that keep showing up in real projects — and each one is learnable without a formal course.

1. Interaction design

Making something respond to a person: a click, a movement, a sound. This is the skill behind installations, prototypes and live visuals. Start with a sensor and a single rule — if this happens, that happens.

2. 3D modelling

Modelling teaches you to think in space. It opens up product design, animation, game environments and 3D printing. Start by modelling an object you can hold, then print it.

3. Sound design

Most digital work is judged on how it sounds before anyone notices how it looks. Recording, editing and layering audio is a fast route to work that feels finished.

4. Working with AI tools

Not prompt tricks — judgement. Knowing which task to hand over, how to check the output and when to do it yourself is what separates useful results from noise.

5. Version control and digital craft

Keeping files organised, naming things properly, backing up work. Unglamorous, and the reason some people finish projects while others lose them.

Where to start

Pick the one that matches something you already want to make. Skills stick when they are attached to a project, not a syllabus.
