5 Things You Can Actually Do With AI
Beyond the hype: five concrete, unglamorous tasks where AI tools genuinely save time.

Most AI conversations stay abstract. These five uses are ones we rely on ourselves, with a note on where each one breaks.
1. Turn a mess into a starting point
Paste in scattered notes and ask for structure. You will still rewrite it, but starting from a rough outline is faster than starting from nothing.
2. Explain something at three levels
Ask for the same concept explained to a beginner, a student and a specialist. The contrast usually shows you where your own understanding is thin.
3. Summarise long material
Reports, transcripts, documentation. Check the summary against the source — models are good at compressing and bad at flagging what they dropped.
4. Draft the boring parts
Replies, descriptions, form letters, first-draft copy. Volume work with a predictable shape is where this saves the most time.
5. Plan a route through something new
Ask for a learning path, then argue with it. The plan is rarely perfect, but it gives you something to correct instead of a blank page.
Where it fails
Anything requiring current facts, precise maths or judgement about a person. Never put confidential information into a tool you do not control, and always check before you send.
